“The value of dollar depends on supply and demand in the market. So, it is the market that will determine it,” the minister said after a meeting on overall economic situation of the country at the Secretariat.
Muhith said the value of local currency fell against the dollar in our neighbouring countries but the situation was not the same in Bangladesh.
The government will not interfere in it, but a committee will be formed to look after the matter, he added.
“Our competitiveness didn’t suffer due to our ‘basket of currencies’ status. It’s a matter for constant review. As it’s been changing everyday, we can’t adjust it on a regular basis,” the finance minister said.
