Sixteen others sustained injuries in the accident with 13 stated to be critically injured, our Tangail correspondent reports.
The accident occurred at about 9:30am when the North Bengal-bound rod-laden truck from Dhaka turned upside down at Kanbila area of the upazila.
Tangail Sadar police chief told The Daily Star, “twenty-four people died on the spot and 16 others injured when the truck turned turtle and the people on it trapped under the rod.”
Police along with fire fighters and locals dragged out the bodies trapped beneath the rod and sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy.
The injured were also rushed to the hospital.
