>no Chinese brand milk found registered

>NO powder milk out of 45 registered brands in Bangladesh are imported from China, authorities today said. (Full article)
But one brand was caught and forced out of market two weeks back on charges of hitting the shops before getting clearance, they said.
Then again, the health directorate published a cautionary notice in a Bangla daily yesterday, asking people to keep from dry milk produced by Chinese companies Guangdong Yashili Group, the one found in pre-clearance marketing, Qingdao Suncare Co Ltd and Sanlu Group.
The media in recent days reported quoting Chinese officials that Bangladesh, Burundi, Gabon, Myanmar and Yemen have imported milk powder produced by Chinese companies whose products were found to have been contaminated.
Three babies died and at least 6,200 children fell sick, over 1,300 of them were hospitalised, in China in recent weeks after drinking milk formula tainted with melamine, said the reports.
“A mobile court found Yashili brand milk powder in Narayanganj market two weeks back,” Fatema Parveen, director of the Institute of Public Health and Nutrition (IPHN), yesterday said.
