>AT least nine people, including women and children, were burned alive and over 20 others were injured when a fire devastated a seven-storey building in Old Dhaka early today.
The fire broke out around 12:10am from a shoe factory on the ground floor of the building on Aga Sadeq Road.

Fire fighters and police sources around 2:20am said they recovered nine bodies from different floors of the charred building.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.

Witnesses said the fire extensively damaged the bottom four floors of the building.
Soon after the building caught fire, panic gripped the residents of the building as they were trapped.
Many rushed to the roof while several tried to jump onto roofs of neighbouring buildings.
Firefighters with the help of police and locals doused the flames in one hour but could not start the rescue efforts immediately as the building was too hot.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) sources said over 15 burn victims were admitted the burn unit of DMCH.
Many others were rushed to different hospitals and clinics in the capital.
Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) officials said at least five fire engines took part in dousing the fire.
