>nor’wester lashes capital, kill 2

>TWO persons were killed in the city during the nor’wester yesterday while over 100 others were injured in Manikganj.
Police said both died when electric wires fell on them during the storm at around 3:30pm.

The dead were identified as Nazma Akhter, 18, a garments worker and Nur Alam alias Swapan, 42, an electrician from Dewanbagh under Dakkhinkhan police station.

Witnesses said electric cables damaged by the storm fell on Nazma and Swapan rushed to rescue her both of them were electrocuted.
Another person Majnu Miah, 27, was also injured in the accident.

The Daily Star correspondent reported from Manikganj that at least 100 people were injured during the Nor’wester at six unions under Saturia upazila. The affected unions are Saturia, Hargaj, Fukurhati, Daragram, Baraid and Baliati.
Local people said storm that lasted for around 20 minutes also damaged 100 houses.
